Cambridge Mausoleum

Pink and grey granite mausoleum with arched doorway on south face flanked by plinths, set below cavetto cornice, battered side walls with roll mouldings to corners, stepped roof with curved finial and marble posts with chain to border of plot.

Architect

The mausoleum itself is not signed, but one of the posts bears the name "Monumental Co. Opposite Entrance".

History

George, Duke of Cambridge (1819 - 1904), grandson of King George III, Field Marshal and Commander-in-Chief of the British Army is interred here with his morganatic wife, Sarah (Louisa) Fairbrother (1815 - 1890).  Their three sons, Col. George William Adolphus Fitzgeorge d. 1907, Rear Admiral Sir Adolphus A Fitzgeorge d. 1922, and Col. Sir Augustus Charles Frederick Fitrzgeorge d.1933 also rest in the mausoleum as do two children born before their marriage: Charles Manners Sutton Fairbrother d.1901 and Louisa Catherine Hamilton d. 1919.
