History

The mausoleum was built by Sir Edward John Dean Paul, 4th Baronet (1831-1895) for his family. He was a noted collector whose porcelain, jewellery, furniture and Dutch Old Masters fetched £42,000 after his death. His son, Wentworth Francis Dean Paul (1870-1893) is also interred here. He was one of the best four in hand whips in England and took first prize for driving a team at the Chicago World Fair in 1893. Worried about money, he poisoned himself at the Bath Hotel in Piccadilly shortly after his return from America.

Condition

Fair/good. Quite a lot of vegetation on the roof (July 2021).
