Ian Johnson is a retired businessman, now aged 69, who lives in Dorset and who has a long-standing interest in Victorian and Georgian architecture. He first became involved with the MMT in 1990s.
Born in Chester, after graduating in 1973, he worked in France for a few years before returning to live and work in London, which he did until 1999.
He was treasurer of the MMT until 2013. From 2015-2019 he also served as treasurer of the Society of Architectural Historians of GB. He is a trustee of the Friends of Kensal Green Cemetery.
He oversaw the restoration of the Heathcote mausoleum at Hursley, Hampshire, in 2005 on behalf of the Trust and was instrumental in raising the funds for that project.
