John Hugh Beattie

John is a graduate of both Queens University Belfast and Trinity College Dublin, holding a BA in Ancient History and Archaeology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Building Conservation.  John has worked in the Heritage Sector for over 15 years as both Conservation Consultant and Buildings Archaeologist.  He currently works as a Senior Consultant with Carrig Conservation. 

With a particular interest in the funerary architecture of his native Ulster, John has previously carried out a survey of all known mausolea in Co. Down and the Greater Belfast area. He has recently completed an ambitious program of conservation works to several 13th and 14th century monuments for the Medieval Mile Museum, Kilkenny, as well as supervising the repair of over 200 monuments at St James’s Graveyard, Dublin.

John has worked as the Hon. Gazetteer Officer with the Mausolea & Monuments Trust since 2010, with responsibility for managing the charity’s on-line database of sites/monuments.
