John is a graduate of both Queens University Belfast and Trinity College Dublin, holding a BA in Ancient History and Archaeology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Building Conservation. Having worked as a Heritage Consultant for one of Ireland’s leading conservation practices he has a wealth of experience in the recording, appraisal and documentation of the built heritage. He is currently working both as a freelance conservation consultant and as an apprentice thatcher with National Museums Northern Ireland.
With a particular interest in the funerary architecture of his native Ulster, John has carried out a survey of all known mausolea in Co. Down and the Greater Belfast area. He has been volunteering as the MMT’s Hon Gazetteer Editor since September 2010 and is responsible for the editing and archiving of entries to the charity's on-line gazetteer.
