Farnborough Abbey is the mausoleum containing the mortal remains of the French Emperor Napoleon III (d. 1873) and his wife, the Empress Eugenie (d. 1920), together with those of their son the Prince Imperial (d. 1879). After the Prince Imperial's death, Eugenie purchased Farnborough Hill and engaged Hippolyte Destailleur to build a majestic chantry chapel to be the mausoleum for the family. The chapel is still cared for by the monks, and the tour will include a talk by the current Abbot.
The tour will be led by Professor Anthony Geraghty of the University of York, who is currently writing a book on the art and architecture of imperial Farnborough.
